General

What is EP Trade?

An algorithmic paper-trading platform for Indian markets (NSE/BSE). It runs a rule-based pipeline — signal generation, an 11-point pre-trade checklist, position sizing, and a kill switch — against real, live market data, with simulated capital rather than real money.

Is this real money trading?

No, not by default. Every account starts in paper mode, and the platform enforces this — real orders are never sent to the exchange in this mode, even though everything else in the pipeline runs against live prices exactly as it would for real trading. See why paper trading first for the reasoning.

How much does it cost?

EP Trade is currently in an early phase with no public pricing yet. Paper trading itself has no cost, since no real orders are placed and no real brokerage or exchange fees are incurred.

Who is this for?

Anyone who wants to validate a trading process — rules, sizing, discipline — against live Indian market data before risking real capital. See our guide on algo trading as an NRI or expat if that's your situation specifically.

Signup & Broker Connection

How do I sign up?

On the dashboard, click "Sign Up" below the login form and provide an email and password. See our full Getting Started guide for every step.

Which broker does EP Trade support?

IIFL Securities, via their Interactive and Marketdata APIs. See our broker considerations piece for what to know about API-based trading generally.

Where do I get IIFL API keys?

Directly from IIFL, not from EP Trade. Contact IIFL (your relationship manager or their support desk) to get API trading access enabled on your account, which gives you an Interactive API key/secret and a Marketdata API key/secret — four values in total, which you then paste into EP Trade's Connections settings.

Is my broker API key safe?

Your credentials are stored against your account only, never written to a shared configuration file, and never visible to other users of the platform.

Can I use EP Trade without connecting a broker?

A connected broker account is what supplies the live market data the whole pipeline runs against, so it's a required step — but connecting it doesn't place any real orders on its own; that's a separate, explicit decision (see "When can I trade with real money?" below).

How the System Trades

What is the 11-point checklist?

A rule-based gate every trading signal must pass before an order is placed — combining signal quality, a deterministic confidence score, portfolio exposure checks, and strategy health, with a small set of conditions that hard-block a trade regardless of overall score. Full breakdown in our checklist framework article.

What is the kill switch?

An automated circuit breaker that halts new trading after a defined bad condition — a losing streak, a daily loss limit, or unusual market volatility — without waiting for a human to notice. See kill switches explained for how it's designed to avoid deadlocking itself.

What are "buckets"?

A bucket is a self-contained pool of (paper) capital with its own risk percentage and strategy filter. You can run several side by side with different risk profiles — a conservative one and an aggressive one, for example — and compare how they perform independently.

Can I pick my own strategy, or only automated ones?

A bucket's strategy filter can be set to a specific automated strategy, to "all" of them, or to "manual" — a manual bucket receives no automated entries at all, so it only holds trades you place yourself.

How is position size decided?

From your bucket's capital and risk percentage divided by the trade's stop-loss distance — so position size scales with both how much capital a bucket has and how tight or wide that specific trade's risk is, rather than a fixed share count.

Going Live

When can I trade with real money?

Going live isn't an automatic unlock — it's a separate, explicit step gated behind an established track record in paper mode, by design, so no one's first trade with real capital is also their first trade on the system.

What happens to my paper trading history if I go live?

Your paper trading history, checklist scores, and Scenario DNA fingerprints stay attached to your account — going live is a mode change, not a fresh start.

Is any of this financial advice?

No. EP Trade is a tool for testing a process against live data. Nothing on this site or in the platform is financial, tax, or legal advice — see individual articles' disclaimers, and consult a licensed professional before making real trading decisions.

This FAQ describes EP Trade's current functionality and is not financial advice. Trading involves risk of loss.
